On June 1st 2005 I went to my 38 week prenatal visit. Everything was perfect. Babies h/r was great My BP was normal so there really was no concern. The Dr Decided that since Anthony was my 5th baby and I was 37 weeks And 3 days pregnant that it would be safe to “start the labor process” by rupturing my membranes. Immediately after she did this I felt as if my stomach “dropped”. I asked if this was normal as I had some pain with this feeling and I was assured that my baby was once again fine… The night went on and contractions began to get closer and stronger. I called my mom Who was also going to coach my delivery and off we went to have our lil man.
We arrived at the Hospital and had to wait about 40 minutes In the L&D waiting room . All the while, I was in terrible pain. My mom told the receptionist that I either need to be put in a room or transferred to another hospital cause something wasn’t right… Finally after 40 long, painful minutes I was brought into a triage room Where I was put on a fetal monitor. The nurse was having trouble finding my Anthonys heartbeat And after a few minutes of searching for it she looked at me and said “Im having trouble finding his h/b im gonna go get the Dr”. I knew in my heart something was seriously wrong. A few minutrs went by and in came the Dr with the ultrasound machine. He asked questions and then proceeded to roll over my belly with the Doppler until I said “is everything ok”??? Thats when he turned the screen off and said those words that I never thought id hear “im sorry honey but your baby is no longer alive”. All I could do was scream as loud as I could NOOO!!!
After a very long 12 hours of induced labor, and a million tears My son Anthony Francis entered the world silent. No crying, no nothing… He was so perfectly made and had a full head of hair. Never in my life did I even thonk I would have bern chpsen to be the mother To a baby born still. But I guess God had other plans for my son The people at the hospital were amazing. I met an AMAZING nurse/bereavement director name Fran Kane who not only took very good care of my baby but became a very good friend of my family. The people at the WNYPBN have helped me immensely, Without the support groups and events such as the walk to Remember, I probably wouldn’t be where I am today. Please help us bereaved mommas be able to continue to support those who endure the loss of their baby by donating to the Western New York Perinatal Bereavement Network. Any amout will be GREATLY APPRECIATED.
Thank you~ Anthony’s momma Starr Viele
Thank you for taking the time to read our story and learn about our baby who will only live on in our hearts… forever. We would like to ask that you help the organization that has helped us and helps so many others in their times of need.
All donations made to this page are made in loving memory of our baby gone too soon and will be used towards the WNYPBN’s Program.
Due to the restrictions and safety precautions required by New York State because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the WNYPBN has to restructure our annual events. In response to this series of unfortunate circumstances, the creative team has come up with alternatives to our annual events, while still paying tribute to your beautiful babies and helping others who are in need of assistance after the loss of their babies, while keeping our community safe.
Please visit our Events tab for information about our upcoming 2022 Events and Fundraisers. We hope you are all able to participate in one or all of our events as we adapt to our “New Normal” and continue to stay in good health and be safe. We are grateful for your support!
Thank you, Emily, Christine, Sue, Kelly and our Event Volunteer Committee
